No no, baaaaaack then, Marvel and him spoke and he said he wanted to do a movie about a lesser-known hero. They showed him some issues they ahd laying around, and he picked TSAM, but it wasn’t the first comic he ever read and he had Ant-Man ideas prior to that meeting.
Actually, they just showed him a list of properties, not issues they had laying around. He had TSAM as a kid, and it was the story that made him want to do Ant-Man. And eh, while we’re also on the subject of TSAM and if you’re collecting, it’s worth noting that he tweeted that cover not too long ago rather cryptically (https://twitter.com/edgarwright/status/389882969768206336) and he did say that he “always thought there was a great film to be made out of that” at SDCC 2012. The thing is, “we’ll meet Hank Pym in Ant-Man” is kind of vague and doesn’t keep Lang from being in the suit as well. It would have been nice if io9 posted their full interview, which I don’t think they ever did, but all we have is a rather vague statement to go on that doesn’t keep there from being two main protagonists.
OH! One last thing: Feige also talked on the Nerdist podcast about Ant-Man a little. He said that Wright “already has certain ideas in place for the characters, going back to Comic-Con 2006, that we wanted to maintain.” So that adds to the evidence that the pitch they’re going with is still the Pym/Lang one.
I’d feel better about Edgar Wright making a Scott Lang movie if I had ever read a story with him in it. He’s in FF right now, but as the straight man to a…
I don’t remember Wright’s first pitch sounding anything like that IMDB summary, which is very generic and sounds like a place-holder, or possibly from the 1980s pitch. From when he first talked about it in 2006, Wright always wanted this to be a Pym and Lang movie.
I’d feel better about Edgar Wright making a Scott Lang movie if I had ever read a story with him in it. He’s in FF right now, but as the straight man to a team of more interesting characters. And before that he was dead for a decade while his more interesting daughter took…
Bluemeth, there was a new interview from today where Feige says that the movie is still based off of Wright’s original pitch, and it sounds like there hasn’t been a lot of rewriting to fit it into the MCU.
