if you haven’t read the article Controversies in Geek Culture: Erasure of Female Characters, then you should fix that right now — the author, Bridget McGuigan, really hits the nail on the head here with some eye-opening statements such as:
Probably one of the most infamous moments in…
I’m seeing some pretty dang big assumptions in those quotes, like the incorrect one that Cassie is not in Ant-Man when she has been confirmed to be, and the idea that Hope will never put on the Wasp costume.
when was cassie confirmed? marvel made a pretty big deal about announcing the ENTIRE cast of “ant-man” at sdcc and there wasn’t any announcement for cassie. But i also wrote this a few months ago so new news might have come up.
Well, for starters, only four cast members were at SDCC; they were never said to be the entire thing, and I think the movie would have bigger problems if they were. But anyway, Peyton Reed confirmed it at SDCC in an interview:
"Rudd’s character is an ex-con, a thief. It’s also got the structure of a heist movie. And there’s also a real personal dynamic to the movie, too. In the comics, Scott Lang has a daughter, and that’s part of the movie, too."
Abby Ryder Fortson’s in the cast, so it’s probably a safe bet that she’s playing Cassie. There are still a hell of a lot of other cast members we don’t know are playing what characters yet, as well.
